Emergency Operations Center a “High-Tech Wonder”

The new Kankakee County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is being tagged a “high-tech wonder”. Thanks to a custom design by Connected Community, the EOC is well equipped to respond to catastrophes, such as a recent train crash and chemical spill.
The EOC consists of 36 fully equipped work positions in addition to four operations manager positions. The system allows any of the four managers to annotate on an image projected at the front of the room. This allows managers to effectively coordinate responses, locate streams and waterways, and assess evacuation strategies. “We believe we have an Emergency Operations Center that is second to none in the state,” Sheriff Tim Bukowski said. “That allows us to better protect the citizens of the county.”
